About True Gear
True Gear was my second go around at starting a business. The first one, along with a bunch of shares, went the way of the dodo. Like a lot of people I learnt the hard way. Went in bright eyed, and came out with my tail between my legs. And I would of given up - if it wasn't for my mate. He was a bit of a gun entrepreneur and the king of getting beaten down and standing back up again. He gave me the spark I needed (thanks Anth). What I wanted was an online business, but the old school way - no B.S. I wanted to give Aussies a place to shop where they knew they were getting the best deal on the market, that they knew they were valued and that we'd bend over backwards to make sure they were happy. And to tell you the truth, it's working. We've helped 1000+ Aussies kit themselves out. Some of those legends helped us out by writing over 100+ 5 star Google reviews (and counting).
I Know What This Gear Needs to Do
I'm not sitting behind a desk picking products out of a catalogue. I camp, I fish, and I've spent enough weekends in a swag miles from anywhere to know exactly what happens when your gear lets you down at the wrong moment. When I was putting together the True Gear range, I started with the question every tradie and outdoorsy bloke asks before he spends serious money: will it actually work when I need it? That's the bar. Not how good it looks on a spec sheet, but how it performs at a dusty campsite at 6am when the fridge needs to stay cold and the phone needs to charge and nothing is going according to plan.
That's why we only stock gear I'd use myself and recommend to my mates. If it doesn't pass that test, it doesn't go on the site.
