Have you measured your boat?
This is the decision that matters. The U has to take the whole hull with room to move, so measure your boat's length and beam and add clearance. The medium at 6m x 3.4m suits a tinnie or a small runabout. The large at 8.5m x 3.4m takes a bigger boat, and the extra 2.5m of length is what you'll want if yours is over about 5 metres. If you're between sizes, go up: a pontoon that's slightly too big is a nuisance, one that's too small is useless. What drop-stitch construction actually gives you
Drop-stitch means thousands of threads run between the top and bottom skins, so when you inflate it the whole thing pulls flat and stays flat instead of ballooning. That's why you can walk on it. Cheap inflatables without drop-stitch go soft in the middle the moment weight lands on them. The 1000D PVC at 0.9mm is the outer skin, and it's what stops a dropped hook or a barnacled hull opening it up.
The electric pump changes whether you'll use it
A 240V electric pump is included, and it fills the pontoon in about five minutes. That sounds like a detail until you've hand-pumped something this size, which takes the best part of half an hour and most of your enthusiasm. If you're launching from a ramp with power, or you inflate at home and float it down, this is why the thing gets used every weekend rather than twice a summer.
Where does a U-pontoon earn its keep?
Three situations. Loading and unloading, where kids and gear go on and off without anyone standing in the water. Overnight mooring, where your hull sits off the sand and the bumpers take the knocks. And as a deck: somewhere to sit, fish or eat lunch that isn't the boat. If you only ever launch and go, you don't need one. If you spend the day on the water and the boat gets crowded, it changes the trip.
Looking after it so it lasts
Two habits. Rinse the salt off before it goes in the bag, because salt crystals grind at the fabric and the seams every time it's rolled. And don't leave it inflated in full sun on a hot day: air expands, pressure climbs past the 1.5 to 2.0 PSI it wants, and that's how seams get stressed. Let a bit out on a 40 degree afternoon and it will outlast the boat.
