When you actually need 10 metres
A single 5m run is plenty for a smaller van with the outlets bunched near the unit. Once you're in a bigger van, dual-axle van or anything with sleeping space well away from where the aircon's mounted, 5 metres gets you partway there and no further (and a joined-on offcut duct is exactly the spot that ends up leaking cold air into the wall cavity instead of the cabin). 10 metres in one continuous run reaches the far end properly, first time.
