The Owner's Insights on the RCD10.5XES
The RCD10.5XES is the short, wide one. 200 litres in a body only 1260mm tall.
That shape suits a van where the fridge sits under a bench or in a low cabinet and a 1.6 metre upright is out of the question.
The doors open from either side without changing the hinge, and there's a two-point lock on each side. That's a proper touring latch, not a magnet.
The handles are aluminium and run the full height of the fridge. The doors are flat, so you can fit your own decor panel between 1.2mm and 3mm thick to match the van.
Dometic rate it for short-term inclination up to 30 degrees. Park on a slope and it keeps cooling.
Who's it for? A low cabinet where height is the constraint. If you have full height available, the RUC8508X gives you 216 litres for a similar spend.
Why You'll Love the RCD10.5XES
- Dual-hinge doors. Both doors open left and right with no hinge swap, so your van layout stops dictating the fridge.
- 200 litres in a 1260mm cabinet. Full-size capacity where a tall upright will never fit.
- Two-point locking on either side. The doors stay shut on corrugations instead of dumping the shelves on the floor.
- Runs on 12V, 24V and 240V. Plug into mains at a park and it takes the load off your battery.
- 39 dB(A) noise rating. Quiet enough that you stop noticing it after the first night.
- Flat doors for a decor panel. Fit a panel from 1.2 to 3mm and the fridge disappears into your cabinetry.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Dual Hinge Compressor Fridge
Dometic build more RV refrigerators than anyone and the Australian service agent network behind them is the widest of any fridge brand here. This model is one Dometic say they tested in the Australian outback, which is more than most brands bother with. Parts stay available for years. See the rest of the Dometic range.

Compressor cooling and the 30 degree inclination rating
This is the clearest answer to the compressor versus three-way question we can give you, because Dometic put a number on it. The RCD10.5XES is rated for short-term inclination up to 30 degrees. A three-way fridge cools by heating ammonia through a levelled circuit, so it wants the van sitting flat and it fades as the outside air heats up. This one keeps cooling on a slope, and its climate class covers 16 to 43 degrees ambient. Dometic say the cooling system was tested in the Australian outback.
What the RCD10.5XES draws from your system
Dometic rate it at 85W on AC, and the current figures are 9.5A at 12V, 4.6A at 24V or 0.5A at 240V. That 9.5A at 12V is the number to plan around, since it's the highest DC draw of any fridge on this page. The compressor cycles rather than running flat out, so your daily total depends on ambient heat and door openings. On a powered site it runs off the mains and leaves your battery alone. Ring us with your setup before you commit.
Why the dual-hinge doors matter in a van
Both doors open from the left and from the right without swapping the hinge over. In a caravan that means the fridge stops dictating where the walkway goes, and you can change your mind after it's installed. Each door has a two-point locking mechanism on either side, so it stays shut on a corrugated road rather than emptying itself into the aisle. The handles are aluminium and run the full height, which gives you something solid to pull on.
Fitting the RCD10.5XES into a low cabinet
At 1260mm tall this fits under a bench or in a low cabinet where a full-height upright cannot go. The opening needs 523 x 1246mm clear without the flange, and 561mm of depth behind the flange face. It weighs 48.5kg, so it's a two-person lift. Dometic supply a drain hose, a sealing strip and six installation bush caps. The doors are flat, so your cabinetmaker can fit a decor panel between 1.2mm and 3mm to match the van. Your installer works from Dometic's manual for clearances, ventilation and fixings.

Not Sure Which Caravan Fridge Suits Your Van?
Buy the RCD10.5XES when height is your constraint. 200 litres in a 1260mm body is hard to beat, and the dual-hinge doors and two-point locks suit a van that gets driven on rough roads. If you have the full 1661mm of cabinet height, the RUC8508X in our RV fridges gives you 216 litres and a slimmer 667mm depth. The honest catch here is the 12V draw. At 9.5A it pulls more current than the RUC uprights, so your battery and solar need to be up to it when you are off mains. Dometic back it for three years against manufacturing defects, and your Australian Consumer Law rights sit alongside that.
