The Owner's Insights on the Santorini 2x4

Most families buy more tent than they need. The 2x4 is where I'd start looking.

It's the same build as the big Santorini, just shorter. Four 10cm air poles, the hand pump that comes in the bag, and about ten minutes of your time. Nothing to thread, nothing to swear at in the dark.

The canopy is the bit people skim past on a spec sheet. Two metres of it, built into the tent rather than clipped on. Your table, your chairs and the fridge all sit under cover when the weather comes across.

Head height inside is 2.05 metres, so you stand up straight to get dressed.

Who's it for? Couples and small families parking up for a few nights. Four adults plus a pile of gear? The bigger 4x8 gives you a separate living area, and you'll want it.

Why You'll Love the Santorini 2x4

  • Multi-point inflation. Each 10cm air pole inflates on its own, so your tent is standing in about ten minutes.
  • Weathershield TC polycotton. It breathes better than nylon, so your tent runs cooler under morning sun and quieter in wind.
  • Two-metre integrated canopy. Covered outdoor living space for your table, your chairs and the camp kitchen.
  • Sealed doors and windows. The stepped D-door and sealed panels keep mozzies and march flies out of your bed.
  • QuickPitch guying system. Peg the bottom strap, pull the buckle, and your guy lines tension in seconds.
  • Marked folding lines. They show you where to fold, so it goes back in the bag the same way every time.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Inflatable Tent

Dometic has built gear for caravans and camp setups for decades, and the tent range came out of that same workshop. They back their inflatable tents for three years, and spares and repair kits are easy to get here. On a tent you'll own for ten years, that backing counts for more than the sticker price. How long the Santorini 2x4 takes to set up

Reckon on about ten minutes on your own, and the pump does most of the work. You inflate the four air poles in turn, peg your corners, then tension the QuickPitch straps. Packing down takes a bit longer, because the folding lines want you to be tidy about it. Set it up in the backyard once before you go and you'll halve that first-trip fumbling.

What fits inside the Santorini 2x4

Your floor runs 4.55 metres front to back. The sleeping zone takes 2.25 metres of that, 2.9 metres across, and the canopy covers the last two metres. That's four sleeping mats side by side with room to walk past. Add the optional inner tent if you want the sleeping end closed off and darker. Running a fridge out there? Have a look at power for camping.

Weathering the Santorini before your first trip

Dometic asks you to weather this one before you use it. Pitch it at home, hose the outside down until it's soaked, then let it dry right out. The polycotton fibres swell and close up the needle holes along the seams. Skip it and you'll get drips through the stitching in your first real downpour. It costs you an afternoon in the backyard, and it's the single best thing you can do for a new polycotton tent.

Why polycotton instead of nylon

The fabric is 35% cotton and 65% polyester, and that mix is why it feels different to a nylon tent. Cotton holds moisture, so you get less condensation dripping on your sleeping bag at dawn. It's heavier than nylon at 22kg, and it needs to dry properly before you pack it. Fair trade for a tent that stays comfortable in the sun.

Not Sure Which Family Tent Suits You?

If you camp as a pair and move on every morning, this is more tent than you need, and a swag will pack smaller. Go the 2x4 when you're staying put for a few nights with the kids. The honest catch is weight. At 22kg it's a two-person lift into the ute, and it needs drying properly before it goes away. Dometic backs it for three years against manufacturing defects, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law sit alongside that. Step up to the Santorini 4x8 for a separate living area, or browse the rest of our camping tents.
