Why water-cooled matters for standby duty
An air-cooled diesel is fine for a few hours of your site work. Run it at load through a long outage and heat becomes the limiting factor. A water-cooled engine has a proper cooling circuit doing that job, which is why it can sit at rated output for hours without complaining.
