What a caravan mover actually changes
The motors clamp onto the tyres and drive the van from a handheld remote. You walk beside it, watching the gap, and put the van exactly where you want it. On a sloping driveway, a tight caravan park bay, or a shed with 100mm to spare either side, it's the difference between a ten minute job with someone yelling directions and a thirty second one done on your own. Once you've used one you won't reverse a van by mirror again.
Single axle or twin axle: which set do you need?
Two motors drive one axle, four drive both. If your van has one axle, the two-motor set is what you want. If it has two, a four-motor set gives you the grip and the load rating to match the extra weight. It's not about preference, it's about how your van is built, so look underneath before you order. Will it move your van?
Two motors are rated to shift up to 1.5 tonnes on a 25% incline, which covers most single-axle vans on most driveways. Check your van's ATM against that figure and be honest about your driveway. It fits vans between 1,800 and 2,500mm wide, which is nearly all of them, but measure yours to be sure. On loose gravel or a steeper slope, the twin-axle set gives you far more margin.
What it does to your battery
It runs on 12V and pulls around 25 amps on average, spiking to 120 amps when it's working hard against a slope. That's a real load, so it wants a healthy battery and decent cable, not a tired one you've been meaning to replace. A few minutes of manoeuvring won't flatten a good setup, but a marginal battery will show its age the first time you use it on a hill.
Fitting it yourself
The fittings, cables and instructions all come in the box, and plenty of owners fit their own over a weekend. It's a bolt-on job to the chassis with the motors set at the right clearance from the tyres, plus a 12V feed from your battery.
