The Aventa Comfort V2 is the roof unit for people who don't want to give up a locker. It drops into an existing skylight opening, which is the cheapest install you'll get, and it's the lightest unit in its class at 28.7kg.
It's reverse cycle, 2,500W of cooling and 2,000W of heating out of the same unit, and Truma pitch it at vans 7 metres and over. That's a longer van than most under-bunk units will comfortably handle.
The feature that matters at a caravan park is the soft start. It ramps the compressor up instead of slamming it on, so it plays nicely with a 10 amp site supply and it's far easier on a generator. At 28.7kg it's a two person lift onto the roof, and then it stays there.

Why soft start matters at a caravan park
A standard air conditioner throws its compressor straight into action, and that inrush is what trips a 10 amp site post or overwhelms a small generator. Soft start ramps it up over a couple of seconds instead. In practice it means you can run your air conditioner on a site supply that's shared with other vans, and a mid-sized generator handles it without a fight. It's the single most useful feature on this unit.
Roof unit or under bunk?
A roof unit like this goes in an existing skylight opening, which is far and away the simplest install, and it doesn't cost you a single locker. The trade-offs are height, wind drag, and nearly 30kg sitting on top of the van. An under-bunk unit like the Truma Saphir keeps the weight low and the roof clear for solar, but you give up storage and the install is more involved. If your roof is already crowded with panels, go under the bunk.
Will it suit your van?
Truma pitch this one at vans 7 metres and over, which is where its extra cooling and heating capacity actually earns its keep. If your van is shorter than that, the Aventa Compact Plus is lighter, cheaper, and sized for 6 to 7 metre vans. The unit is 1,008 x 665mm on the roof and needs a standard skylight opening, so measure yours before you order.
Can you run it off a generator?
Yes, and the soft start is why. It draws 4.9 amps cooling and 4.2 heating on 240V, which is a bit over 1kW of running load. A 2kW inverter generator is undersized once you count the compressor startup even with soft start; a 3.5kW or larger inverter generator runs it comfortably alongside your fridge. Getting it installed
A skylight-fit roof unit is the easiest air conditioner install there is, but it's still cutting, sealing and a 240V connection on your roof. A bad seal is a leak you find in the next downpour. Unless you've done it before, get a caravan technician to fit it. Ring the store and we'll point you at someone near you.
