The Owner's Insights on the Welling & Crossley WC-P8750 Generator

Read the output figures before anything else. It's badged 8.75kVA, but your working numbers are 7,000W maximum and 6,500W continuous. Size your gear against 6,500W and it'll hold all day.

The 25 litre tank gives you 16.9 hours at quarter load. That's a full day on your stall or your site plus a decent chunk of the next one, without touching the jerry can.

It's 90kg, so the wheelbarrow kit with the big wheels isn't a nicety, it's how you'll move it. Four ways to start it including a wireless remote, and two IP66 outlets, which is a higher weather rating than most.

Why You'll Love the Welling & Crossley WC-P8750 Generator

  • 6,500W continuous, 7,000W max. Enough for your shed, your stall or a house in a blackout.
  • 16.9 hours at quarter load. The 25L tank sees out your day and then some.
  • Four ways to start it. Wireless remote, electric, recoil or 2-wire.
  • Two IP66 15A outlets. Sealed against dust and water jets, not just splashes.
  • 420cc WC-420 engine. Single cylinder OHV petrol with the grunt to hold the load.
  • AVR-stabilised output. Steady voltage so your gear isn't taking a hammering.
  • Wheelbarrow kit included. Big wheels and handles, because it's 90kg.
  • Digital display. Volts, frequency and hours run, at a glance.

8.75kVA, 7,000W or 6,500W: which number to use

Three figures, one that matters. 8.75kVA is the model rating at a 0.8 power factor. 7,000W is the maximum it delivers in a short burst. 6,500W is the rated continuous output, and that's your working number. Total up everything you want running at once, keep it under 6,500W, then check your biggest startup surge fits under 7,000W. Get that right and it'll run all day without complaint.

What 6,500W actually covers

That's a serious amount of power. It'll run most of your house through a blackout: the fridge, the freezer, your lights, hot water and a few appliances. On your market stall it handles a fridge, lighting and cooking gear at the same time. In your shed it'll drive a welder or a compressor, which is where the smaller units run out. Add up your continuous loads and check the biggest startup surge, because a big motor still needs headroom under 7,000W.

Why IP66 outlets are worth noticing

Most generators come with IP44 sockets, which handle splashes. These are IP66, which means dust-tight and protected against water jets. That's the difference between an outlet you'd rather cover on a wet day and one that's built for your weather. If your generator lives outdoors on a site or a farm, it's a small detail that saves you replacing sockets.

Moving 90kg without hurting yourself

It's a big unit and it weighs 90kg dry. The wheelbarrow kit with handles and large wheels comes with it, which is how you get it off the tray and across a site. Over flat ground you'll manage it on your own. Getting it up onto your ute needs two of you, or a ramp. Plan for that before it arrives, because there's no carrying this one.

Is an open frame right for you?

At 72 dBA from seven metres this is a working generator. On your job site, your farm or at a market it's completely normal. In a caravan park it will make you unpopular and plenty of parks won't allow it. The AVR keeps your voltage steady, which is the sensible minimum for tools and appliances, but it isn't the pure sine wave an inverter produces. If quiet, clean power matters more than price, see the inverter generator range instead.

What's Included

  • Welling & Crossley WC-P8750 8.75kVA generator
  • Wheelbarrow kit with handles and wheels
  • Wireless remote
  • User manual
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty

What's Not Included

  • Fuel and engine oil
  • An RCD, which some worksites require
  • Extension leads
  • A cover, if it's going to live outside

It takes 1.1 litres of SAE 10W-30 and runs on 91 octane unleaded, so have both on hand before your first start. Some worksites require an RCD on the outlet, so check your site rules. If you're wiring it into a house or a shed, get a licensed electrician to fit a changeover switch: never backfeed through a wall socket.

Not Sure Which Open Frame Generator Suits You?

The WC-P8750 suits you if you need serious working power for a shed, a farm, a market stall or a house in a blackout, and the noise isn't a problem where you'll use it. It's the wrong pick if you want something portable or quiet, where 90kg and 72 dBA will both count against it. It carries a 2-year Welling & Crossley warranty. Not sure what size you need?
