The Owner's Insights on the Bartlett 4m x 2m Rectangular Water Hammock

Eight metres square is a lot of deck. Four metres long, two wide, and rated for eight adults, so this isn't a floaty you take turns on. The whole family and the dog fit at once.

The mesh centre is the bit people don't expect. It lets water through and air past, so you sit half in the water and stay cool instead of frying on hot vinyl. On a 35 degree day that's the difference between using it and getting off it.

Drop-stitch double wall fabric at 4 to 5 PSI is what makes it firm. There are 16 grab handles and 6 D-rings on it, so you can climb on, tow it, anchor it, or tie it alongside the boat. Pump, repair kit and carry bag are all in the box.

Why You'll Love the Bartlett 4m x 2m Rectangular Water Hammock

  • 4m x 2m of deck. Eight adults, or the family and the dog with room left.
  • Breathable mesh centre. You sit half in the water and stay cool on a hot day.
  • Drop-stitch double wall fabric. Firm underfoot at 4 to 5 PSI, not a wobbly lilo.
  • 16 grab handles. Climb on from the water without hauling yourself up.
  • 6 heavy-duty D-rings. Anchor it, tow it or tie it alongside your boat.
  • Packs to 55 x 45 x 30cm. Fits in your boot and lives in the shed over winter.
  • Pump and repair kit included. Nothing extra to buy before your first day out.
  • 25kg. Two of you carry it down to the water easily enough.

What the mesh centre actually does

A solid inflatable deck sits on top of the water and gets hot. The mesh panel through the middle of this one lets water come up and air move through, so you're partly in the water while you're lying on it. On a still summer day that's the feature that keeps people on it rather than sliding off every ten minutes to cool down. It also means the deck drains instead of holding a puddle.

Why drop-stitch matters at this size

Four metres of inflatable wants to sag in the middle. Drop-stitch construction uses thousands of threads joining the top and bottom skins, so when you pump it to 4 or 5 PSI those threads hold the surfaces flat against each other rather than letting it balloon. That's why you can walk across this and it feels like a deck. Get the pressure right: under-inflate it and you lose exactly the thing you paid for.

16 handles and 6 D-rings

The handles are what let you get back on from the water, which sounds obvious until you've tried climbing onto something with smooth sides. They also give two people a proper grip to carry it. The six D-rings are the anchoring points: run a line to your boat, drop an anchor off one, or tie it to a jetty. Between them you can set it up wherever you're mooring rather than improvising with rope around the edge.

Setting up and packing away

It packs to 55 x 45 x 30cm in the supplied bag and weighs 25kg, so it fits in a boot and stores in a shed. The hand pump is included, which is honest but slow at this size: if you'll use it most weekends, an electric pump is the upgrade worth making. Rinse it with fresh water after a day in the salt and it'll last a lot longer.

Hammock or dock: which do you want?

This is a lounging platform. The mesh centre and the 4 to 5 PSI make it a comfortable place to lie down, not a working deck. If what you want is somewhere to stand, load gear on and off the boat, or park a jet ski, a solid inflatable dock is the better shape. Have a look at the inflatable pontoon range, or call the store on 03 7056 6732 and we'll match one to what you're doing.

What's Included

  • Bartlett 4m x 2m rectangular deck water hammock
  • Hand pump
  • Repair kit
  • Carry bag

What's Not Included

  • Anchor and rope
  • An electric pump
  • A tow rope

The pump, the repair kit and the carry bag all come with it, so you're set on day one. An electric pump is the upgrade most owners make, and you'll want an anchor and rope to suit your spot.

Not Sure Which Water Hammock Suits You?

The Bartlett 4m x 2m suits you if you want a big, cool place to lie about on the water with the family, off the boat or off a jetty. It's the wrong pick if you need a firm working platform for gear or a jet ski, where a purpose-built dock does a better job. Not sure which size or shape suits your setup? Call the store on 03 7056 6732, or send an SMS to 0476 330 590 and we'll work it out with you.
