What Champion publish, and what they don't
Champion sell you a 12,500 watt generator, and on their Australian page that's the only output figure they give: there's no separate continuous rating alongside it. On most petrol generators the peak figure covers the surge when your motor starts, and the continuous figure sits well under it. So size yours conservatively: add up what runs at the same time, use running watts for each item, and leave a real margin rather than working back from 12,500. The three-phase outlet is the surprise here
Most petrol generators this size give you household sockets and nothing else. This one has a 20A five-pin three-phase outlet alongside three 15A outlets, which means one machine covers your normal gear and your three-phase equipment. If you own a three-phase compressor, pump or machine tool, that's usually a reason to buy a much more expensive unit. Worth checking the plate on your machine against the outlet before you assume it fits.
Is this a camping generator? No.
It's worth being straight, because the size catches people out. At 166kg, 841mm tall and 78 dBA at 7 metres, this is your house backup and jobsite machine. It has never-flat wheels and a foldaway handle so you can move it around your yard, but nobody is lifting it into a camper. If you want power for camping or a caravan park, an inverter generator is the right tool: quieter, lighter and far more welcome at a site.
Backing up a house properly
Champion note this will start and run a central air conditioner with a manual transfer switch, and that transfer switch is the part you need to understand. To power your house circuits you need your sparky to fit a changeover switch: never backfeed through a wall socket, because it puts power back into the street and can kill someone working on the lines. Once it's fitted, an outage means you wheel it out, start it and flip a switch.
What to add to the order
Two things are worth having from day one. A Champion cover sized for the 12500W if it's going to live in a carport or beside a shed, because a generator that sits out in the weather ages fast on you. And a jerry can, not because 41 litres runs out quickly, but because a servo run mid-outage is exactly when you don't want to leave the house.
