The Owner's Insights on the Dometic CFX2 28
The CFX2 28 is the cheapest way into a proper compressor fridge from Dometic, and that word proper is doing real work. This is not a thermoelectric cooler that gets 20 degrees below ambient and gives up. It freezes to minus 22 in the heat.
It is 600mm long and 345mm deep, and 13.5kg empty. Twenty-eight litres, which is 26 cans, or a couple of days of food for two.
It draws 0.78 amp-hours an hour at 12V with 32 degrees outside and 4 inside. About 19 amp-hours a day.
Honest bit. You do not get the vacuum insulated panels that the CFX5 has, and 26 cans is not much once you add food. If your trips run past a weekend, look at the 45.
Why You'll Love the Dometic CFX2 28
- The cheapest real Dometic compressor fridge. It freezes to minus 22 in Australian heat, which no thermoelectric cooler at this price will do.
- Only 13.5kg empty. Light enough to move on your own, and short enough at 600mm to fit most boots.
- 0.78Ah an hour at 12V. Roughly 19 amp-hours a day in 32 degree heat, so your 100Ah battery runs it about five days.
- 3-stage battery protection. It shuts itself down before it flattens your cranking battery, so you can still start the car.
- Bluetooth and the Dometic app. Check your temperature from the swag and get an alert if you leave the lid open.
- Same 5-year warranty as the CFX5. You pay less, and Dometic backs it for exactly as long.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Portable Fridge
Dometic has been building mobile refrigeration for decades, and the CFX range is the part of the line-up made for touring rather than fixed installs. What matters most to you here is the back end. Dometic backs your CFX2 28 with a 5-year Australian warranty, and supports it through a repair network based here. You can see the rest of the range in our Dometic collection.

What Size Power Station Runs the CFX2 28
Your fridge averages 0.78 amp-hours an hour at 12V, which is about 225 watt-hours a day in 32 degree heat. A 1,000Wh power station runs it roughly four and a half days before you need a top-up. Add a solar panel and you stop counting. If you are not sure what size suits your setup, the Power Station Finder asks you a few questions and gives you a straight answer, or browse the portable power station range.
Dometic CFX2 28 vs the CFX2 37
Nine more litres and twenty more cans for 78mm more length and 2.3kg more weight, at 150 dollars more. Power draw is identical at 0.78 amp-hours an hour. The 28 fits smaller spaces, but 26 cans fills fast once you add food. If you have the room, the 37 is better value per litre.
Fitting the CFX2 28 to a Fridge Slide
There are M6 threaded inserts moulded into the base, so you can bolt it to a fridge slide or your drawer system without drilling the shell. The box is 600mm long, 345mm deep and 427mm high. Measure your space before you order and leave clearance at the back for the vent and the power socket. If a portable box is not the answer and you want a fridge built into the van, look at the RV fridge range instead.

Not Sure Which Camping Fridge Suits You?
Is this your first compressor fridge? The 28 is the right size for one or two people on short trips, and it is hard to beat for the money. The honest limits are capacity and insulation. Twenty-six cans is not much, and you do not get the vacuum insulated panels the CFX5 range has, so it works a little harder in real heat. If you tour off-grid for a week at a time, step up to a CFX5. Your order ships from Melbourne and your CFX2 carries a 5-year Dometic warranty backed by their Australian repair network. Compare the rest of the camping fridge range, or give us a call and you will get a straight answer, not a script.
