The Owner's Insights on the Dometic CFX2 45
Forty-five litres is the size most people land on, and this is the cheap way to get it from Dometic. Sixty cans, 16.8kg, and the same compressor and 5-year warranty as the CFX5 sitting above it.
It is 678mm long and 401mm deep, so it is actually a shade shorter than the CFX5 45 and two kilos lighter.
It draws 0.86 amp-hours an hour at 12V with 32 degrees outside and 4 inside. About 21 amp-hours a day, so a 100Ah battery gets you close to five days.
Honest bit. The CFX5 45 gives you vacuum insulated panels, an anti-condensation coil and a lower draw for 550 more. If you are out for a week at a time that gap matters. For weekends, this does the same job.
Why You'll Love the Dometic CFX2 45
- 45 litres and 60 cans. The size most blokes settle on, at a price that leaves money for the rest of the setup.
- Two kilos lighter than the CFX5 45. At 16.8kg empty it is easier to lift in and out on your own.
- 0.86Ah an hour at 12V. About 21 amp-hours a day in 32 degree heat, so your 100Ah battery runs it close to five days.
- Freezes to minus 22 degrees. Set it anywhere from plus 20 down to minus 22, so it works as a fridge or a proper freezer.
- 3-stage battery protection. It shuts itself down before it flattens your cranking battery, so you can still start the car.
- Same 5-year warranty as the CFX5. You pay 550 less, and Dometic backs it for exactly as long.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Portable Fridge
Dometic has been building mobile refrigeration for decades, and the CFX range is the part of the line-up made for touring rather than fixed installs. What matters most to you here is the back end. Dometic backs your CFX2 45 with a 5-year Australian warranty, and supports it through a repair network based here. You can see the rest of the range in our Dometic collection.

What Size Power Station Runs the CFX2 45
Your fridge averages 0.86 amp-hours an hour at 12V, which is about 248 watt-hours a day in 32 degree heat. A 1,000Wh power station runs it roughly four days before you need a top-up. Add a solar panel and you stop counting. If you are not sure what size suits your setup, the Power Station Finder asks you a few questions and gives you a straight answer, or browse the portable power station range.
Dometic CFX2 45 vs the CFX5 45
Same 45 litre class, 550 dollars apart. Both run on 12/24V and mains, both use the Dometic app, both carry the 5-year warranty. The CFX5 45 adds vacuum insulated panels, an anti-condensation coil and a lower draw at 0.76 amp-hours an hour against 0.86, and it holds one more litre. The CFX2 45 is two kilos lighter and a lot cheaper. Weekends on a powered site or short trips, save the money. Out for a week at a time, the CFX5 earns it.
Fitting the CFX2 45 to a Fridge Slide
There are M6 threaded inserts moulded into the base, so you can bolt it to a fridge slide or your drawer system without drilling the shell. The box is 678mm long, 401mm deep and 493mm high. Measure your slide before you order and leave clearance at the back for the vent and the power socket. If a portable box is not the answer and you want a fridge built into the van, look at the RV fridge range instead.

Not Sure Which Camping Fridge Suits You?
Weekends away, or a week off-grid? This is the best value 45 litre fridge Dometic makes, and for most weekend use it does everything the CFX5 does. The honest limit is insulation. Without the vacuum insulated panels it works harder in real heat and draws a little more, 0.86 amp-hours an hour against 0.76. If you tour off-grid for a week at a time, the CFX5 45 is worth the extra. Your order ships from Melbourne and your CFX2 carries a 5-year Dometic warranty backed by their Australian repair network. Compare the rest of the camping fridge range, or give us a call and you will get a straight answer, not a script.
