The Owner's Insights on the Dometic CFX2 57

The 57 is the most litres per dollar Dometic sells. Fifty-seven litres and 68 cans for under a thousand, which undercuts the 55 litre CFX5 by a long way.

It is 709mm long, 458mm deep and 18.5kg empty, so your box is lighter than the CFX5 55 while holding two more litres.

It draws 0.89 amp-hours an hour at 12V with 32 degrees outside and 4 inside. About 21 amp-hours a day.

Honest bit. Sixty-eight cans out of 57 litres is a lower packing density than the CFX5 55 manages from 55, because the interior is shaped differently. And there are no vacuum panels, so it works harder in the heat.

Why You'll Love the Dometic CFX2 57

  • 57 litres and 68 cans. The biggest CFX2, and the cheapest way to get a family sized fridge from Dometic.
  • Lighter than the CFX5 55. At 18.5kg empty it is two kilos lighter than the CFX5 55, with two litres more space.
  • 0.89Ah an hour at 12V. About 21 amp-hours a day in 32 degree heat, so your 100Ah battery runs it close to five days.
  • Freezes to minus 22 degrees. Set it anywhere from plus 20 down to minus 22, so it works as a fridge or a proper freezer.
  • 3-stage battery protection. It shuts itself down before it flattens your cranking battery, so you can still start the car.
  • Same 5-year warranty as the CFX5. You pay 650 less than the CFX5 55, and Dometic backs it for exactly as long.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Portable Fridge

Dometic has been building mobile refrigeration for decades, and the CFX range is the part of the line-up made for touring rather than fixed installs. What matters most to you here is the back end. Dometic backs your CFX2 57 with a 5-year Australian warranty, and supports it through a repair network based here. You can see the rest of the range in our Dometic collection.

What Size Power Station Runs the CFX2 57

Your fridge averages 0.89 amp-hours an hour at 12V, which is about 256 watt-hours a day in 32 degree heat. A 1,000Wh power station runs it roughly four days before you need a top-up. Add a solar panel and you stop counting. If you are not sure what size suits your setup, the Power Station Finder asks you a few questions and gives you a straight answer, or browse the portable power station range.

Dometic CFX2 57 vs the CFX5 55

The CFX2 57 holds two more litres and weighs two kilos less, for 650 dollars less. What you give up is the vacuum insulated panels, the anti-condensation coil and a slightly lower draw, 0.87 amp-hours an hour on the CFX5 against 0.89 here. The CFX5 55 also fits 85 cans against 68, because its interior is shaped for them. For most family camping the CFX2 57 is your better buy. For hard off-grid touring the CFX5 is built for it.

Fitting the CFX2 57 to a Fridge Slide

There are M6 threaded inserts moulded into the base, so you can bolt it to a fridge slide or your drawer system without drilling the shell. The box is 709mm long, 458mm deep and 503mm high. That depth and height catch people out, so measure your slide before you order and leave clearance at the back for the vent and the power socket. If a portable box is not the answer and you want a fridge built into the van, look at the RV fridge range instead.

Not Sure Which Camping Fridge Suits You?

Want family size without the CFX5 price? The 57 undercuts the CFX5 55 by a long way. The honest limits are insulation and packing. No vacuum panels means it works harder in real heat, and at 68 cans it holds fewer drinks than the smaller CFX5 55 does. If you tour off-grid for a week at a time, a CFX5 will treat your battery better. Your order ships from Melbourne and your CFX2 carries a 5-year Dometic warranty backed by their Australian repair network.
