Which size suits your crew
The numbers do the deciding here. The 2x2 holds five people and 450kg, which is a family and not much else. The 3x2 gets you to seven people and 680kg, and that's the size most people end up happy with. The 3x3 and 3x4 both take twelve people and 1,080kg, so the difference between them is floor area rather than capacity: the 3x4 gives you an extra three square metres to spread out on. If you're regularly out with two families, go bigger than you think.
Why the thickness and the double walls matter
A thin inflatable platform flexes. Someone stands up at one end and everyone else feels it, which is fine for a pool toy and no good when you're trying to get gear on and off a boat. This one is 200mm thick with double-layered side walls, and Floatables inflate it in a way that pulls the top and bottom surfaces tight against each other. The result is a deck that feels solid rather than bouncy, which is the whole reason to buy a proper dock instead of a lilo.
Joining two docks together
Four dock connectors come in the box, which means the platform you buy now isn't the biggest one you'll ever have. Add a second Drift Series dock later and you clip them together into one continuous deck. It's a genuinely useful upgrade path if you're not sure how much space you'll want, and it beats buying the biggest size upfront and then having to carry it every trip.
Setting it up and packing it down
The hand pump is in the box and it takes under ten minutes to inflate. Hand holds run around the dock so two people can lift it, walk it to the water and position it without much drama. Packing down is the reverse, into the carry bag, and even the biggest size is only 34kg. That's the practical difference between a dock you use most weekends and one that stays in the shed.
What you'll want to add
The pump, the carry bag, the repair kit and the connectors are all included, so there's nothing you need on day one. What you will want is an anchor and rope to suit where you're mooring it, because that depends entirely on your spot.
