Standby, not prime power: what that means for you
Hyundai are clear on their own spec sheet that this generator isn't intended for prime power applications, and it's worth understanding what that rules out. Standby means it runs when the mains fail, or when your solar batteries call for a top-up: hours at a time, not days on end. Prime power means it's the only source and runs constantly, which is a different class of machine with a different service schedule and a much bigger price. The headline is 10kVA, but the numbers that matter are 7,250W continuous and 8,000W on surge. Surge covers the moment a pump, a compressor or an air conditioner starts. Continuous is what it holds all day. Add up everything that runs at the same time, use the running figure for each item, and keep the total under 7,250W with a margin. If a house is what you're backing up, that's the fridge, lights, pumps, the modem and hot water comfortably: it isn't a whole house with air conditioning and an oven going.
Why the two-wire auto start matters off-grid
A two-wire contact closure starts the generator, which means your inverter, battery management system or automatic transfer switch does the starting instead of you. On an off-grid property that's the difference between a bad solar week you never notice and one where somebody walks out to a shed at 10pm. Wiring the contact to your system is a job for whoever installed it, and it isn't included.
Diesel and a canopy: what you're paying for
