Standby, not prime power: what that means for you
Hyundai are clear on their own spec sheet that this generator isn't intended for prime power applications, and it's worth understanding what that rules out. Standby means it runs when the mains fail, or when your solar batteries call for a top-up: hours at a time, not days on end. Prime power means it's the only source and runs constantly, which is a different class of machine with a different service schedule and a much bigger price. The headline is 8kVA, but the numbers you size against are 5,800W continuous and 6,400W on surge. Surge covers the moment a pump, a compressor or an air conditioner starts. Continuous is what it holds all day. On a house that's the fridge, lights, water pump, the modem and hot water comfortably. What it isn't is a house with air conditioning and an oven going. Add up what runs at the same time, use the running figure for each item, and keep the total under 5,800W with a margin.
Why the two-wire auto start matters off-grid
A two-wire contact closure starts the generator, which means your inverter, battery management system or automatic transfer switch does the starting instead of you. On a rural property that's the difference between a bad solar week you never notice and one where somebody walks out to a shed at 10pm.
