The Owner's Insights on the Thule Omnistor 6300 Manual Awning

The same cassette awning as the electric 6300, with a winder instead of a motor. That's the whole difference, and it saves you a good deal of money for something that has nothing electrical to fail.

Every length gives you the same 2.5m projection, so you're choosing width along the van rather than depth away from it. Pick the length that fits your wall, and remember the fabric is 180mm shorter than the cassette.

Two things worth knowing before you order: the mounting brackets are sold separately and depend on your vehicle, and the pitch is adjustable so you can still open a sliding door with the awning out.

Why You'll Love the Thule Omnistor 6300 Manual Awning

  • Manual wind-out. Nothing electrical to fail out bush.
  • 2.5m projection on every length. Real shade to sit, cook or work under.
  • Six lengths, 2.6m to 4.5m. Match it to your wall, not your van.
  • Black or white cassette. Match it to your van rather than settle.
  • Adjustable pitch. Open your sliding door with the awning out.
  • Quick Lock support legs. Adjust them without a spanner or a fight.
  • Drainage in the front profile. Water and leaf litter run off, not into the fabric.
  • Thule build quality. The awning European motorhomes are fitted with.

Why You Should Consider a Thule Manual Awning

Thule have been building awnings for European motorhomes and caravans for decades, and the Omnistor 6300 is their mid-size cassette awning. See the rest of the caravan awning range.

Measure your wall, not your van

This is the one that trips people up. The size on the box is the length of the cassette, and the fabric is 180mm shorter than that. So measure the clear run of wall you have between the door, the windows and any vents, and choose the cassette that fits inside it. Every length gives you the same 2.5m projection, so a longer awning is more shade along the van, not further out from it. If you're not sure, ring the store on 03 7056 6732 with your van's make and model and we'll work it out with you.

Manual or electric: which are you?

The honest test is how you travel. With a winder you put the awning out when you're staying two nights, and you don't bother for lunch or a quick stop. With a motor you put it out every time, which is the whole reason you bought an awning. So if your van parks up at a site for days or weeks, take the manual and keep the difference. If you move every day, the electric 6300 is what actually gets used.

The brackets are the part people forget

The awning mounts to vehicle-specific brackets, and they're sold separately because what fits a Sprinter doesn't fit a Jayco. That's not Thule being difficult, it's what makes the same awning fit hundreds of vans properly. Sort the brackets at the same time as the awning: ring the store on 03 7056 6732 with your make, model and year and we'll match the right kit before anything ships.

Adjustable pitch, and why it matters on a van

The pitch system lets you set the angle of the awning arms. Two practical reasons that's useful: you can drop the outer edge so rain runs off instead of pooling, and on a van with a sliding door you can set the pitch so the door still opens with the awning out. That second one is a daily annoyance on awnings that don't adjust.

What you're actually paying Thule for

There are cheaper cassette awnings. What the Thule buys you is the mechanism: spring-loaded arms that hold tension so the fabric doesn't flap, a cassette that closes properly and keeps water and grit off the fabric when it's rolled, drainage built into the front profile, and a bracket system that fits properly rather than nearly. Awnings fail at the arms and the fabric, and both are where the money goes here.

Not Sure Which Manual Awning Suits You?

The manual 6300 suits you if your van sits at a site for days at a time, you want a proper cassette awning, and you'd rather have nothing electrical to fail. It's the wrong pick if you stop every day, where the electric 6300 means the awning actually goes out, or if you need more than 2.5m of projection, where the Omnistor 9200 gives you 3m. Call the store on 03 7056 6732, or send an SMS to 0476 330 590 and we'll size it against your van.
