Three metres of projection is the whole point
Most cassette awnings give you 2.5m, which puts shade over the door and a step. Three metres puts shade over a table with chairs around it, or a full outdoor kitchen setup, or two people in camp chairs without either of them in the sun by mid-afternoon. On a big motorhome or a full-size van, that extra half metre is what makes the awning somewhere you actually sit rather than somewhere you walk through.
Measure your wall, not your van
This is the one that trips people up. The size on the box is the cassette length, and the fabric is 180mm shorter than that. So measure the clear run of wall you have between the door, the windows and any vents, and choose the cassette that fits inside it. Spring arms hold tension in the fabric, which is what stops a 3m awning flapping and pooling water in a shower. The adjustable pitch does two jobs: drop the outer edge so rain runs off instead of collecting, and set the angle so a sliding door or a caravan door still opens with the awning out. On a small awning you can live without both. At 3m of projection they're what keeps it usable.
