The Owner's Insights on the Bartlett Straight Inflatable Pontoon

This is the walkway of the Bartlett range: 1.4 metres wide and either 5 or 8.5 metres long. It's what you buy when the problem is reach rather than floor area, whether that's getting from the bank to your boat or running a jetty out to deeper water.

The two sizes are a big step apart. The 5 metre takes 10 adults and weighs 23kg, so one person can drag it and two can carry it. The 8.5 metre takes 20 adults at 41kg, which is a proper waterfront installation.

Same drop-stitch construction as the rest of the range, inflated to 4 or 5 PSI, so it's firm underfoot rather than wobbly. Both pack into a bag with the pump and repair kit and live in the shed over winter.

Why You'll Love the Bartlett Straight Inflatable Pontoon

  • 5m or 8.5m of walkway. Reach out to deeper water or bridge the gap from your bank to the boat.
  • 10 or 20 adults. Pick the length that suits your spot and your crowd.
  • Drop-stitch double wall fabric. Firm under your feet at 4 to 5 PSI, not a wobbly lilo.
  • 16 or 24 D-rings. Anchor it, tie your kayaks off, or join it to another deck.
  • Light for the length. 23kg on the 5 metre, 41kg on the 8.5, so you're not hiring a crane.
  • Pump, repair kit and bag included. Everything you need to have it on the water on day one.

When a straight pontoon is the right shape

If your problem is distance rather than deck space, this is the one. It gets you from a muddy bank out to water deep enough to board a boat, or it runs alongside a jetty to double your tie-up length. It's also the piece people use to join a deck out to shore. If what you actually want is somewhere to stand around, fish and swim, the 4m x 2m Deck Extender gives you more usable area for the same money.

5 metre or 8.5 metre: which one to buy

The 5 metre is the practical pick for most people. Ten adults, 23kg, packs into a 50 x 50 x 25cm bag and fits in a boot. The 8.5 metre is a different proposition: 20 adults, 41kg, and a much bigger 50 x 50 x 60cm bag. Buy the long one if you need genuine reach out to deep water or you're building a serious waterfront setup. Otherwise the 5 metre is easier to handle and easier to store.

Is it firm enough to walk on?

Yes, and it's the construction that does it. Drop-stitch fabric runs thousands of threads between the top and bottom skins, so at 4 or 5 PSI it holds flat instead of bulging under your weight. At 1.4 metres wide it's a comfortable walkway rather than a balance beam. The four grab handles give you something to hold onto while you're shifting it or climbing back on.

Tying it off and joining decks

There are 16 D-rings on the 5 metre and 24 on the 8.5, running down both sides. That's what lets you anchor it, rope it to a jetty, tie off your kayaks, or connect it to another Bartlett deck to build the shape you actually want. Plenty of owners end up with a walkway plus a platform rather than one big piece.

What's Not Included

  • Anchor and rope
  • Electric pump, if you'd rather not use the hand pump
  • A second deck, if you want to build the platform out

It ships ready to use with the pump, the repair kit and the bag. Worth adding an anchor and rope to suit your spot, and have a look at the Deck Extender if you want floor space at the end of your walkway.

Not Sure Which Inflatable Pontoon Suits You?

The straight pontoon suits you if you need to reach out to deeper water, bridge a soft bank, or add length alongside a jetty. It's the wrong pick if you want room to stand around and swim, where a Deck Extender gives you far more usable area. Not sure which shape or length suits your spot?
