The Owner's Insights on the BLUETTI Sora 500 Solar Panel

Five hundred watts from one folding panel is the top of the portable market, and the reason it manages that is the cell type. TOPCon cells run up to 25% efficiency against the 23.4% of the older mono panels, so you get more watts out of your patch of ground.

The voltage is the thing to check before you order. Open circuit is 49.1V and it makes 40.92V at max power. That suits a station with a 12 to 58 or 12 to 60 volt input window and rules out the small units. Check your station's range against 49.1V.

It's a big panel: 2.54 metres long unfolded and 12.9kg, folding into a 570 x 445 x 85mm bundle. That's genuinely portable for 500W, but you want a clear patch of ground at your camp to lay it out, and two hands to set it up.

Why You'll Love the BLUETTI Sora 500 Solar Panel

  • 500W from one panel. Five times a 100W panel, from a single setup and a single lead.
  • TOPCon cells at up to 25%. More watts out of your patch of sun than the mono panels it replaces.
  • Folds to 570 x 445 x 85mm. Twelve panels fold into something you can carry and store in your boot.
  • IP67 with an ETFE surface. Rain is a non-issue and dust wipes straight off.
  • Standard MC4 connectors. Plugs into BLUETTI stations and most other brands without an adaptor.
  • Works from -25 to 65 degrees. An alpine morning or a Pilbara afternoon, it keeps producing.

What TOPCon cells actually change

Most folding panels use standard monocrystalline cells at around 23% efficiency. TOPCon adds a thin oxide layer behind the cell that cuts electrical losses, which lifts efficiency to around 25% and holds output better when your panel gets hot. In the Australian sun, where panels routinely run well above their rated temperature, that second part matters as much as the headline number. In practice you get more usable watts from the same footprint on the days you need them most.

What the Sora 500 will charge in a day

Rated output is 500W, and in real sun with the panel angled properly you'll average somewhere around 330 to 400W through the middle of the day. Over six useful hours that's roughly 2,000 to 2,400Wh. On a 2,000Wh station that's a full charge from empty in your day, which is what makes a panel this size worth carrying. Move it once or twice to follow the sun and you'll do better again.

Will it work with your power station?

Check the voltage first. The Sora 500 has an open circuit voltage of 49.1V, which sits comfortably inside a 12 to 58 volt or 12 to 60 volt input window and outside a small unit's 12 to 28 volt range. Your station also needs to accept at least 500W of solar to use it all. Read the solar compatibility guide, or ring the store on 03 7056 6732 with your model and we'll check it.

How it holds up outdoors

It's IP67 with an ETFE-coated surface, so rain isn't a problem and the dust that costs you output wipes straight off. Twelve folding panels means twelve hinges, so fold it into its case when you're moving camp rather than dragging it across your gravel open. Give the face a wipe every few days on a long trip: dirt costs you more output than the weather ever will.

What's Included

  • BLUETTI Sora 500 solar panel
  • MC4 connection cable
  • Carry bag

What's Not Included

  • A power station to charge
  • MC4 extension lead, if the sun is a long way from your camp
  • MC4 branch connectors for running two or more panels

The panel comes with its MC4 lead, so it plugs straight into a BLUETTI station out of the box. Add a solar extension cable so the panel can sit in the sun while the station stays in the shade, and pair it with a power station that accepts at least 500W of solar input.

Not Sure Which Solar Panel Suits You?

The Sora 500 suits you if you run a mid-sized or large station and you want it genuinely full again by evening, from one panel and one lead. It's the wrong pick if your station only takes 500W or less of solar, or if you camp in tight spots, because 2.54 metres unfolded needs clear ground. Solar panels from True Gear carry 100 Day Free Returns, and this one comes with a 12-month BLUETTI warranty. Not sure it suits your station? Call the store on 03 7056 6732 and we'll check the voltage and the input limit with you before you buy.
