The Owner's Insights on the FreshJet Mini ADB

Headroom is the thing that decides this one. The Mini ADB drops 40mm below your ceiling where the standard FJZ ADB drops 48mm. In a low camper conversion, eight millimetres is a real number.

It's the smallest air distribution box Dometic builds. Same job as the bigger one: it takes the cold air off your roof unit and spreads it through the van, and it carries the controls, the filter and the lights.

The footprint is smaller too, at 484 x 476mm against 579 x 518mm. It still drops into a standard 400 x 400mm roof cut-out, so you're not chasing an adapter frame.

Worth knowing before you order. Dometic doesn't publish the Australian item number for this one, so the figures on this page come from their international listing for the same model. Ring the store and we'll confirm your fitment before it ships.

Why You'll Love the FreshJet Mini ADB

  • The smallest ADB Dometic makes. 484 x 476 x 40mm, so it suits a low ceiling where the standard box is too deep.
  • Fits a standard cut-out. Dometic sizes it for a 400 x 400mm roof opening with no adapter frame needed.
  • Full electronic controls. Touch display, remote and LED lighting, the same feature set as the bigger box.
  • Flexible airflow control. Four air ducts in the box let you aim the air where your van actually needs it.
  • Light on the ceiling. At 2.5kg it asks very little of the structure it clamps into.
  • App connectivity built in. Bluetooth and WiFi, which is what links your system to the Dometic Power App.

Why You Should Consider a Dometic Air Distribution Box

Dometic splits its rooftop air conditioning into a roof unit and an air distribution box so the inside can be matched to your vehicle. Buying the genuine box means the wiring, the mounting and the app all line up first go. It also keeps your warranty conversation simple if something goes wrong later. What an ADB actually does

So what is an ADB? Short for air distribution box. Your rooftop unit does the cooling. The ADB is the ceiling panel that takes that air and spreads it through your van, and it carries your controls, your display, the dust filter and the lights. Dometic sells the two halves separately, so a rooftop air conditioner on its own won't run. The Mini is simply the smallest version of that panel.

How the Mini ADB compares with the standard FJZ ADB

Dometic states the Mini has 37 per cent less volume, sits 8mm lower and weighs 27 per cent less than the FJZ ADBD, with the same features. In numbers that's 484 x 476 x 40mm against 579 x 518 x 48mm, and 2.5kg against 3.9kg. Both take a 400 x 400mm cut-out. So your trade isn't features, it's size. If your ceiling is tight or your van is small, the Mini is the one.

Will the Mini ADB fit your roof opening

Will it drop into what you have already? Dometic sizes it for a standard 400 x 400mm cut-out and states no adapter frame is needed. That's the same opening the FJZ7 Lite roof unit uses, so a matched pair drops straight in. Measure your existing opening before you order. If you're replacing an older Dometic system, give the store a call with the model number off your roof unit so we can check it against Dometic's compatibility list first.

When the Mini ADB is available

Dometic Australia has this one down as available end of Q2, so we're showing it with stock at zero rather than pretending otherwise. If you want one, ring the store or send an email and we'll put your name against the first shipment. We'll also confirm the Australian carton contents and dimensions with Dometic at that point, since their public listing covers the international item rather than ours.

What's Included

  • FreshJet Mini ADB
  • Installation kit
  • Remote control
  • 2 x battery
  • 4 x air duct
  • Installation manual
  • Operating manual

What's Not Included

  • Rooftop air conditioner unit
  • Installation labour
  • Ceiling opening modification

The box list above comes from Dometic's international listing for this model, so ring the store if you want your Australian carton confirmed first. Pair it with a roof unit such as the FJZ7 Lite, or step across to the standard FreshJet FJZ Electronic ADB if headroom isn't your problem.

Not Sure Which Air Distribution Box You Need?

Pick the Mini if your headroom is tight. It gives you back 8mm of ceiling and a smaller footprint than the standard box, and it takes the same 400 x 400mm cut-out. If your ceiling has room, the FreshJet FJZ Electronic ADB is the more common choice and it's easier to get hold of. The honest catch on this one is availability and paperwork. Dometic Australia has it down as arriving end of Q2, and they don't publish the Australian item on their site, so the figures here come from their international listing for the same model. Ring the store before you commit to a ceiling cut-out. Dometic Australia covers air conditioners for three years against faulty materials and workmanship, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law sit alongside that.
