What 5,000W actually runs
Size your gear against 5,000W, not the 5,500W surge. On your site that's an angle grinder and a circular saw together, or a compressor and a couple of hand tools. On your farm it's a pump, lights and a small welder on light duty. At home on backup it covers your fridge, freezer, lights, a pump and the hot water. What it isn't is everything in your house at once with the air conditioning going. Add up the running watts of what you want on together and leave yourself a margin.
Is eleven hours on a 25 litre tank enough for you?
Twenty-five litres is a big tank for a machine this size, and Hyundai rate it at 11 hours at half load. On a job that's your whole day without anyone walking back to refuel. At home it's a full night of blackout backup while you sleep in. The bigger HY9000LEK has the same tank and gets 9.2 hours, because it's asking more of it. That's the honest trade between the two: more watts, or more hours.
What the AVR gives you
Automatic voltage regulation holds your output voltage steady as the load changes. Without it, every time a motor or a compressor starts, the voltage dips then overshoots. Your grinder and your work lights won't care. Chargers, control gear and anything with a circuit board care more over the years. What AVR isn't is the pure sine wave from an inverter generator, so the waveform is still a conventional alternator's. For tools, pumps, welding and house backup that's exactly what you want.
Both outlets are 15 amp, and that's the right way round
A 15 amp socket has a bigger earth pin, so a 10 amp plug fits into it, but a 15 amp plug will not fit a 10 amp socket. Two 15A outlets means your site gear, your compressor and a heavy-duty lead all plug straight in with nothing to adapt. Your ordinary household leads fit fine too. It's the other way around, a 15A plug and a 10A socket, that catches people out.
Backing up your house needs an electrician
If yours is for blackouts, budget for a changeover switch and a licensed electrician to fit it. Running a lead from your generator into a wall socket, which people call backfeeding, energises the street wiring and can kill a linesman working on the line. A changeover switch isolates your house from the grid before your generator connects, so that can't happen.
