Sixteen hours is the number that sells this one
Westinghouse publish two run times: 16 hours at 400W and 5 hours at 1,600W. That first figure is a fridge, lights and a few chargers, and 16 hours off 5 litres means you set it going at dusk and it's still running mid-morning. Work it hard at 1,600W and you get 5 hours, which is the honest limit. Work out roughly what you'll draw and read across, rather than assuming the best case applies to you.
Use 2,100W, not 2,400W, when you plan
Twenty-four hundred watts is the surge and it only covers the second a motor kicks in. What it holds for you continuously is 2,100W, which is 8.8 amps. That's a camping fridge, lights, chargers and a laptop with room spare, or a kettle by itself, or a small compressor. What it is not is a caravan air conditioner plus anything else. Add up the running watts of everything you want on at once, keep it under 2,100, and check your biggest motor's surge fits in the gap.
Fifty-two decibels, and what that means at a park
At 400W it runs at 52 dB(A) from 7 metres, which is below a normal conversation. Push it to 1,600W and it climbs to 61 dB(A), because the ECO throttle winds the engine up to meet your load. Both figures are good for a petrol generator: an open frame machine of similar output sits around 73 dB, and that's a different experience for everyone around you. Most caravan parks with a generator rule will accept a machine at this level.
What under 2.5% THD does for your gear
Total harmonic distortion measures how clean the waveform is. Mains sits under 5%, most inverter generators claim under 3%, and this is rated under 2.5%. In practice your laptop, your CPAP machine, a modern fridge, a battery charger or camera gear all run off it the same as they would at home. That's the whole point of an inverter, and this one is at the better end of the range.
2400i or iGen2250?
They're close, and the difference is worth understanding. The iGen2250 is a kilogram lighter and cheaper, with 1,800W continuous and a 4.7 litre tank. The 2400i gives you 300W more, a slightly bigger tank and a proper fuel gauge, and it runs 16 hours at light load against the 2250's 11.3. If you're at the edge of what a 2 kVA machine will do, the 2400i is the safer buy. If you want the lightest and cheapest that runs a fridge, take the 2250.
