The Owner's Insights on the Westinghouse iGen2250 Inverter Generator

1,800W continuous and 2,250W starting, out of a 19kg inverter you carry in one hand. That's the most popular size class going, and it covers most of what you'd run at a camp.

Fifty-three decibels at quarter load is what makes it usable at your camp. That's below a normal conversation, and it climbs to 62 dB(A) when you work it hard.

The run time worth planning around is 11.3 hours at quarter load. Run it flat out and your 4.7 litre tank gives you 3.8 hours, so know which of those two you'll be doing.

Why You'll Love the Westinghouse iGen2250 Inverter Generator

  • 1,800W continuous, 2,250W starting. Fridge, lights, tools and chargers.
  • 53 dB(A) at quarter load. Below a normal conversation.
  • 19kg dry. One hand, one ergonomic handle.
  • 11.3 hours at quarter load. A full night off 4.7 litres.
  • Under 2.5% harmonic distortion. Cleaner than most inverters.
  • 2 x 15A outlets plus a 12V socket. All IP44 rated.
  • LED panel lights. Read the controls in the dark.
  • Service without tools. Oil and air filter, no spanners.

The two run time numbers, and which one is yours

Westinghouse publish 11.3 hours at quarter load and 3.8 hours at full load. Quarter load is roughly 450W, which is your fridge, your lights and a few chargers, and that gets you through the night. Full load is 1,800W, which is your kettle or a heat gun, and off a 4.7 litre tank that's under four hours. Work out roughly what you'll draw and read across. Your tank is small, so if you plan to run heavy gear all day, carry fuel or look at a bigger machine.

Nineteen kilos is why this size sells

Two kVA is the most popular generator class in Australia, and weight is most of the reason. At 19kg dry you pick it up with one hand and put it in your boot without a second thought. Anything much bigger becomes a two-hand lift and then a two-person lift. If your generator is going in and out of your car every weekend, that difference decides whether it gets used or stays in your shed.

What under 2.5% THD means for your gear

Total harmonic distortion measures how clean the waveform is. Mains sits under 5%, most inverter generators claim under 3%, and this is rated under 2.5%. In practice your laptop, your CPAP machine, a modern fridge, a battery charger or camera gear all run off it the same as they would at home. That's the whole point of an inverter, and this one sits at the better end of the range.

What you get on the panel

Two 15 amp outlets and a 12V DC accessory socket, all IP44 rated against dust and splashes. The Data Center shows your output voltage and frequency, your current run time and your cumulative hours, and that last figure is what you use to track servicing. You also get an ECO throttle switch, an overload indicator with a push-button reset, a low oil alarm and a frame earthing terminal. The panel lights are LED and work while it's running, which sounds minor until you're setting up in the dark.

iGen2250 or iGen2600?

The iGen2600 steps up to 2,200W continuous on a 5 litre tank, for a few hundred more and three and a half extra kilos. That extra 400W is the difference between running a kettle with something else on, and running it by itself. If your list is a fridge, your lights and your chargers, the 2250 does it for less and is easier to carry. If you want headroom, go up. Try the Generator Finder, or ring the store on 03 7056 6732.

Not Sure Which Inverter Generator Suits You?

The iGen2250 suits you if you want quiet, clean power for a camp or a caravan in the lightest package that still runs a fridge and tools. It's the wrong pick if you want headroom for a kettle plus other gear, where the iGen2600 gives you 400W more, or if you need real site grunt, where the WHXC3750 Pro steps up with an RCD. Try the Generator Finder, or call the store on 03 7056 6732.
