What the RCD actually does for you
A residual current device watches for current leaking to earth, which is what happens when a lead is damaged or someone touches a live conductor. It trips in milliseconds, well before the current is enough to stop your heart or your mate's. Australian WH&S rules mandate that protection on construction sites, which is why your generator gets sent home without an RCD. If yours is going anywhere with a safety officer, this is the version you need. If it's for your shed, it's still the sensible choice for anyone using power tools in the wet.
Sixteen hours is the other reason to take the Pro
Fifteen litres gives you 16.8 hours at half load. That's your full work day plus the evening, or a whole night of blackout backup, without anyone touching it. Where a smaller tank has you walking back to refuel at lunchtime, this one just keeps going. The trade is weight: 52kg dry and 64kg with fuel and oil in it, so it's a two-person lift onto your tray even with the Never-Flat wheels and fold-down handles.
One outlet, and how to work around it
The panel has a single 15 amp 240V outlet, rated IP66 with a cover, plus a 12V DC accessory socket. That's a real limitation if you want two of your tools going at once, and it's worth knowing before yours arrives rather than after. Your fix is a heavy-duty lead board on a 15 amp lead, which spreads the one outlet into four. Just remember the total is still 3,000W: the board doesn't give you more power, only more places to plug in.
What 3,000W actually runs
Size your gear against 3,000W, not the 3,750W surge. On your site that's a drop saw and a work light, or a compressor by itself. On your property it's a pump, lights and a charger. At home on backup it covers your fridge, freezer, lights and a pump. What it isn't is a welder, or an air conditioner alongside everything else. Add up the running watts of what you want on at once and leave yourself a margin to the 3,750.
Pro or standard: is the RCD worth the difference?
The standard WHXC3750 is the same output for less money, and it does your job for camping or occasional home use. What it doesn't have is the RCD safety switch or the IP66 weatherproof outlet. If your generator ever goes to a job site, the standard one is not compliant and you'll have wasted the saving. If it lives at home and never leaves, the standard one is fine.
