The Owner's Insights on the Bartlett 4m x 2m V Deck Inflatable Pontoon

The V Deck solves the bit of a day on the water nobody enjoys: getting the boat in and out without scraping the hull or dropping someone in the shallows. The V-shaped groove cradles the bow so the boat sits still while you load the esky and the kids.

It's a proper 4 by 2 metre platform, not a novelty float. Eight adults can stand on your deck at once, it takes two of your watercraft, and the drop-stitch construction means it's firm underfoot rather than wobbly. Inflated to 4 or 5 PSI it feels closer to a jetty than an air mattress.

The practical part is that it packs into a 55 x 45 x 30cm bag and weighs 28kg. That's a two-person lift into your boot, and then it lives in your shed over winter instead of taking up a mooring.

Why You'll Love the Bartlett 4m x 2m V Deck Inflatable Pontoon

  • V-shaped docking groove. Your boat sits cradled and steady while you load and unload.
  • Holds up to eight adults. The whole crew can be on it at once without it sinking at one end.
  • Drop-stitch double wall fabric. Firm under your feet at 4 to 5 PSI, not a wobbly lilo.
  • 18 D-rings and 9 grab handles. You can tie it off anywhere and drag it into position on your own.
  • Packs to 55 x 45 x 30cm. It goes in your boot and lives in your shed over winter.
  • Pump, repair kit and bag included. Everything you need to have it on the water on day one.

Why You Should Consider a Bartlett Inflatable Pontoon

Bartlett build inflatable pontoons for Australian conditions, and the range runs from a straight walkway through to an 8.5 metre U-shape. The V Deck is the one most boat owners land on. See the rest of the Bartlett range.

How the V-shaped groove works

The cut-out at one end is shaped to take the bow of your boat. You nose in, the hull settles into the V, and the pontoon holds it steady instead of letting it swing on the water. That means you can step off, load your gear, and get people on and off without someone holding a rope the whole time. It suits your tinnie, your tender or your ski boat, and it takes two watercraft at once.

Is it firm enough to stand on?

Yes, and that's down to the construction rather than the size. Drop-stitch fabric uses thousands of threads between the top and bottom skins, so when you inflate it to 4 or 5 PSI it holds its shape instead of bulging under your weight. Walking on it feels much closer to a floating jetty than an air bed. Eight adults is the rated capacity, and the 9 grab handles give your crew something to hold while they climb aboard.

Setting it up and packing it down

The hand pump is in the box, and inflating it is a job you'd do once at the start of your day. Getting it to the water is easier than the weight suggests because there are handles down both sides, so two of you can carry it or one can drag it on grass. Packed it goes into a 55 x 45 x 30cm bag, which fits in most boots and stores in the corner of your shed.

Tying it off and adding to it

There are 18 D-rings around the edge, which is what makes it flexible. You can anchor it, tie it to your jetty, rope it to a mooring, or join it to another Bartlett deck. If you want a bigger platform later, the 4m x 2m deck extender connects onto it and doubles your floor space.

What's Included

  • Bartlett V Deck inflatable pontoon, 4m x 2m, grey

  • Repair kit
  • Carry bag

What's Not Included

  • Anchor and rope
  • Electric pump, if you'd rather not use the hand pump

It ships ready to use with the pump, the repair kit and the bag. Worth adding an anchor and rope for your spot, and the deck extender if you want to double your floor space later.

Not Sure Which Inflatable Pontoon Suits You?

The V Deck suits you if you launch and load a boat off a bank or a mooring and you're sick of the scramble every time. It's the wrong pick if you just want somewhere to lie in the sun, where a water hammock is cheaper and lighter, or if you need a long walkway rather than a platform.
