Why an inverter air conditioner is worth the money
A conventional caravan air conditioner runs the compressor flat out until it hits the set temperature, then shuts off, then bangs back on again. You feel that as temperature swings and you hear it every time it cycles. An inverter varies the compressor speed instead, so it settles into a steady low hum once the van is cool. You get more even temperature, less noise overnight, and lower average draw, which is what makes it workable off a generator.
Will it fit and suit your van?

Measure the space before you order. If your van is longer than 7 metres you'll be underdone on a hot day and you want to look at a bigger unit.
Can you run it off a power station or generator?
It draws 872 to 1,002W cooling and up to 1,405W heating on 240V, which is inside what a mid-sized power station can supply on paper. The catch is always the compressor starting up, which pulls several times the running draw for a moment. You want real surge headroom, not a station running at its limit. Getting it installed
It ships as a one-piece EPP frame ready to install, which makes it a quicker job than most, but it's still ducting, a condensate drain and a 240V connection. Unless you've done it before, get a caravan technician to fit it. A tidy install is the difference between an air conditioner you forget about and one that drips into the locker. Roof unit or under bunk?
A roof unit is simpler to fit and doesn't cost you locker space, but it adds height, adds drag, and puts 30-odd kilos above your head. An under-bunk unit like this one keeps the weight low, keeps your roof clear for solar, and doesn't change your garage clearance. The trade-off is the install and the storage space. If you'd rather go on the roof, look at a roof-top unit instead.
