This is the small Honda in the Gentech range and it does one job well: keeping a couple of tools or the household essentials going without costing much to buy or run. Three and a bit kVA off a Honda GX200, and it's 40kg so two of you can lift it into the ute.
The GX200 is the same little commercial engine you'll find on a hundred other pieces of gear, which means any small-engine shop can service it and parts are on the shelf. That's most of why people buy Honda power in a generator this size.
Two things to plan for. The tank is 3.1 litres, so you get about two hours and twenty minutes at 80% load and you'll top it up during a working day. And it's recoil start only, which is fine on a 200cc engine but worth knowing if you were expecting a key.

What will a 3.4kVA generator run?
Three point four kVA is about 2.7kW of real work. That covers a couple of hand tools, a work light and a charger on a job, or your fridge, some lights and the modem in a blackout at home. It won't run a caravan air conditioner, and it won't run a welder. Both 15A outlets are live at once, so you don't need a power board. If you need more headroom, the 5.9kVA is the next step up.
Why buy a Honda engine on a small generator
On a big machine you buy Honda for the way it holds voltage. On a small one you buy it for the servicing. The GX200 is one of the most common commercial small engines in the country, fitted to mowers, pumps, compressors and pressure washers, which means any small-engine shop can work on it and the parts are on the shelf rather than on a boat. A cheap generator with an unbranded engine is fine until it needs something.
How long will it run on a tank?
The 3.1 litre tank gives you 2.32 hours at 80% load, off Gentech's own figure of 1.34 litres an hour. That's a small tank, and it's the trade-off for the compact size. Run it lighter and you'll stretch it out. Keep a jerry can with you, let it cool before you refuel, and plan on topping up through the day rather than filling once in the morning.
Frame generator or inverter generator?
This is a frame generator with an alternator, so it's cheaper per watt and simpler mechanically. What it doesn't give you is pure sine wave power or the quiet running of an inverter. For tools, lights and a fridge that's fine. If you're running a laptop, a CPAP machine or sensitive electronics, or you're camping where 67 dBA will annoy someone, look at the inverter range instead.
