The Owner's Insights on the Gentech Generator Dust Cover
A generator that lives in a shed or on a tray collects dust, and dust in the wrong places is what turns a smooth-starting motor into a cranky one. Sixty-six dollars against a couple of thousand is cheap insurance.
There are two sizes and they're not interchangeable. Small suits generators up to 3.5kVA. Large suits 5.9 to 8kVA petrol, 6.8 to 7.7kVA diesel, and the 7kVA welders. Both have the fitted model lists below, so check yours.
The drawstring is what makes it stay on. Access holes let you get a grip on the cover while you're pulling it over the frame, and there's a pocket on the outside for a funnel or your spare plug.

Work out which size you need
Small covers generators up to 3.5kVA and measures 650 x 450 x 400mm. Large covers 5.9 to 8kVA petrol, 6.8 to 7.7kVA diesel and the 7kVA welders, at 820 x 550 x 560mm. Both fitted model lists are in the table above, so find your model rather than guessing off the kVA figure. If your generator isn't listed, ring the store on 03 7056 6732 with the model number and we'll check it before you order.
Check the exclusions before you buy
It doesn't suit workstations, the 8kVA RCD and R/S models, or Mine Spec diesel generators. Those frames are a different shape, so the cover won't sit right on them. It's worth reading that line properly, because the 8kVA exclusion catches people out: most 8kVA units are covered by the large, but the RCD and R/S variants are not.
Why a cover is worth the money
Dust is what gets into an air filter, a carburettor and the cooling fins on a generator that sits between jobs. It's also what turns an easy start into ten pulls after a winter in the shed. A cover doesn't make your generator waterproof and it isn't a substitute for storing it out of the weather, but for light moisture and everyday dust it does the job for a fraction of a service.
