The Owner's Insights on the Gentech EP7000HSR 7kVA
This is the size of generator most tradies and farmers actually need. Seven kVA off a Honda GX390 runs your compressor, your saws and a site full of leads without breaking a sweat, and it still fits in the back of a ute.
You pick between two versions. The recoil model is 75kg and you pull it over by hand. The recoil and electric start model adds five kilos and a key, which is worth the money if you're starting it a dozen times a day or your shoulder isn't what it was.
The trade-off with this size is the tank. Six litres gives you about two and a half hours at 80% load, so plan a top-up in the middle of a working day rather than filling it once and forgetting about it. At 69 dBA it's also on the quiet side for a frame generator.
Why You'll Love the Gentech EP7000HSR 7kVA
- Honda GX390 engine. The commercial engine you already know, so parts and service are easy to come by.
- 7 kVA of single-phase power. Enough for your compressor, your tools and site lighting all at once.
- Double 15A GPO. Both your heavy leads plug straight in without an adaptor or a power board.
- 69 dBA at seven metres. Quiet enough to work beside and to run on a residential job.
- 75kg in the recoil model. A two-man lift into a ute rather than a crane job.
- Recoil or electric start. Pull it over by hand, or turn a key if you're starting it all day.

Why You Should Consider a Gentech Generator
Gentech has been building Honda-powered generators for the Australian market for years, and the EP range is what tradies and rural properties buy when downtime costs them money. It carries a 2-year warranty with parts and service support here in Australia. See the rest of the Gentech range.

What will a 7kVA generator run?
Seven kVA on single phase is around 5.6kW of real work. That covers a site compressor, a couple of saws and your lighting at the same time, or a farm shed running a welder on its own. Both 15A outlets are live at once, so you're not juggling leads. If you're only running a caravan fridge and some lights it's more generator than you need, and if you want to back up a whole house with the air conditioning on, look further up the range.
Recoil or electric start: which one to buy
Mechanically they're the same machine with the same Honda engine and the same output. The recoil model is 75kg and starts with a pull cord. The EP7000HSRE adds electric start and weighs 80kg, and it still has the recoil as a backup. If the generator lives in a shed and gets started once a week, save your money. If you're on and off it all day, or you're lifting it in and out of a ute already, the key start pays for itself in shoulders.
How long will it run on a tank?
The 6.1 litre tank gives you about 2.5 hours at 80% load, working off Gentech's own figure of 2.44 litres an hour. Run it lighter and you'll stretch that out. Keep a jerry can with you, because this is a generator you top up during the day rather than one you fill in the morning and forget. Let it cool before you refuel it.
Is 69 dBA quiet enough for a residential job?
At seven metres away, 69 dBA sits around normal conversation level, which is quiet for a frame generator of this size. It's fine for a suburban job site during working hours, and it won't have the neighbours out on the footpath. It's still louder than an inverter generator, so if you're camping or running it overnight, an inverter generator is the better tool.
What's Included
- Gentech EP7000HSR or EP7000HSRE generator
- User manual
- 2-year manufacturer warranty
What's Not Included
- Fuel
- Extension leads and 15A plugs
- Changeover switch or house wiring
- A cover, if it's going to live outside
It ships as the generator itself. If you're wiring it into a house or a shed, get a licensed electrician to fit a changeover switch: never backfeed through a wall socket.
Not Sure Which Generator Suits You?
The EP7000HSR suits you if you want a proper work generator for a site, a shed or a farm, and you'd rather buy a Honda engine once than a cheap one twice. It's the wrong pick for camping or a caravan, where the noise and the frame size make no sense and an inverter generator is the answer. It carries a 2-year Gentech warranty with service support here in Australia. Not sure what size you need?
