This is the biggest petrol generator we sell, and it's the one you buy when a 5kVA unit has already let you down. Twenty kVA single phase off a Honda iGX800 with electronic fuel injection, so it starts on the button in the cold and holds your voltage when a big load drops onto it.
The EFI is the bit worth paying for. A carburettor generator that sits six months between blackouts is the one that won't start when you need it. Injection keeps your fuel system honest and cuts what you burn while it's running.
Be realistic about the size. It's 160kg, it's 75 dBA at seven metres, and it drinks 6.88 litres an hour at 80% load. What will a 20kVA generator run?
Twenty kVA on single phase is about 16kW of real work, which covers your house with the air conditioning on, or a site running a welder, a compressor and a couple of saws at the same time. The two 32A outlets are there for the heavy gear and the 15A plug takes ordinary leads. If you're only running a caravan, a fridge and some lights, this is far more generator than you need and you'll burn fuel proving it.
Why the EFI engine matters
Electronic fuel injection replaces the carburettor with a metered fuel system. In practice that means three things for you: it starts reliably after sitting between jobs or blackouts, it holds engine speed better when a big load kicks in, and it burns less fuel doing the same work. On a machine that drinks nearly 7 litres an hour at full noise, that difference shows up on the fuel bill inside a season.
How long will it run on a tank?
The 34 litre tank gives you 6.15 hours at 80% load, which is Gentech's own figure at 6.88 litres an hour. Run it lighter and you'll get longer. Plan your refills around your working day rather than topping up whenever you think of it, because a hot generator is one you have to shut down and let cool before you fill it.
Noise, weight and where you can put it
At 75 dBA measured seven metres away this is a working machine, not a quiet camping inverter. Give it space away from your windows and your neighbours. At 160kg it isn't going in the back of a ute by hand either, which is why it has a centre-point lift built in. If quiet and portable matter more than raw output, look at an inverter generator instead.
