The Owner's Insights on the Gentech ED6800YSRE-3 6.8kVA Yanmar 3-Phase Diesel Generator
Three-phase in something you can lift onto a ute is the whole point of this one. Most three-phase generators are trailer-mounted or bolted to a pad. This is 100.5kg on an 810mm frame with a Yanmar L100N5 in it.
You get a 20A three-phase 5-pin outlet plus two 15A single-phase outlets, so one generator covers both your three-phase machinery and your normal tools. That flexibility is why people buy it.
The one thing to plan around is the tank. It's 5.4 litres, and at 80% load that's 3.3 hours. That's deliberate: this is built to be light and portable, not to run all day. Carry a jerry can.
Why You'll Love the Gentech ED6800YSRE-3 6.8kVA Yanmar 3-Phase Diesel Generator
- True three-phase output. Runs machinery a single-phase generator simply can't.
- Three-phase and single-phase outlets. One 20A 3-phase 5-pin plus two 15A sockets.
- Yanmar L100N5 diesel. A proven engine your mechanic can service anywhere.
- Only 100.5kg. Goes on a ute or a trailer without a crane.
- Electric start with recoil backup. Two ways to start it in the field.
- 6.8kVA rating, 7kVA alternator. A bit of headroom in the alternator for fluctuating loads.
- 1.65 litres an hour at 80%. Diesel economy while it's working hard.
- 810 x 550 x 560mm. A compact footprint for a three-phase unit.

Why You Should Consider a Gentech Diesel Generator
Gentech build diesel and petrol generators for the Australian trade and rural market, and the ED6800YSRE-3 is their portable Yanmar-powered three-phase unit. See the rest of the Gentech range.

Why portable three-phase is unusual
Three-phase power normally means a big unit: trailer-mounted, pad-mounted, or something a truck delivers and leaves. This does three-phase at 100.5kg on a compact frame, which means it goes on your ute or trailer and travels to the job. If your work involves three-phase machinery on sites that don't have three-phase power, that combination is the reason to buy this rather than something bigger.
Be realistic about the 5.4 litre tank
At 80% load it burns 1.65 litres an hour, so the tank gives you 3.3 hours. That's short, and it's a direct consequence of the compact, light design. This is a generator for service work, a few hours on a job, or running a machine while you use it, not for setting up and forgetting for a day. Carry a jerry can and it's a non-issue. Expect all-day running and it will annoy you.
Running both three-phase and single-phase gear
You get one 20A three-phase 5-pin outlet and two 15A single-phase outlets. That means the same unit powers your three-phase machinery and your ordinary 240V tools, lights and chargers, which saves carrying two generators. Remember the total is still 6.8kVA across everything, so add up what's running at once rather than treating the outlets as separate supplies.
Why the Yanmar engine matters
The L100N5 is a known commercial diesel. Parts are available across the country, any diesel mechanic recognises it, and it's built for working hours rather than occasional starts. On a generator you're spending this much on, the engine is what you're actually buying: the frame and the alternator are replaceable, the engine decides whether the machine is worth keeping in five years.
Is 80 dBA a problem where you'll run it?
This is an open frame diesel at 3,000 rpm, and 80 dBA is normal for the class. On a site, a farm or an industrial yard nobody notices. Near houses it will be heard. If you need three-phase and quiet, you're looking at a canopied unit, which costs more and weighs a lot more. Not sure what size or type you need? Call the store on 03 7056 6732 and we'll go through it, or try the Generator Finder.
What's Included
- Gentech ED6800YSRE-3 6.8kVA Yanmar three-phase diesel generator
- Electric start with recoil backup
- 1 x 20A three-phase 5-pin outlet
- 2 x 15A single-phase outlets
What's Not Included
- Diesel fuel
- Three-phase and single-phase leads
- A jerry can, which you'll want with a 5.4 litre tank
- A cover, if it's going to live outside
The 5.4 litre tank gives you about 3.3 hours at load, so a jerry can is part of the kit rather than an optional extra. If you're wiring it into a shed or a building, get a licensed electrician to fit a changeover switch: never backfeed through a wall socket.
Not Sure Which Diesel Generator Suits You?
The ED6800YSRE-3 suits you if you need genuine three-phase power that travels to the job, and you're running mixed three-phase and single-phase gear. It's the wrong pick if you only run single-phase equipment, where a cheaper single-phase unit does the same work, or if you need long unattended run times, where the 5.4 litre tank will frustrate you. Not sure what size you need? Try the Generator Finder, or call the store on 03 7056 6732 and we'll size it against your machinery.
