The Owner's Insights on the Gentech EP8000HSRE-R/S 8kVA Remote Start
This is the 8kVA Gentech built for backup rather than for site work, and two things make it that. It starts from a remote, so when the power drops at eleven at night you press a button instead of walking out in the rain. And it carries a 30 litre tank rather than the six litres on the standard model.
That tank is the real story. Thirty litres gives you 11.6 hours at 80% load, so an overnight blackout is one fill instead of three. On a property where the outages are long, that's the difference between a generator that helps and one that becomes your evening.
Underneath it's the same Honda GX390 as the rest of the 8kVA range, so parts and servicing are easy to come by anywhere. It's a fixed-position machine rather than something you carry, so think about where it lives and how it's wired before it arrives.
Why You'll Love the Gentech EP8000HSRE-R/S 8kVA Remote Start
- Remote start. Fire it up from inside the house instead of walking out in the weather.
- 30 litre long-range tank. 11.6 hours at 80% load, so a long outage is one fill.
- 8 kVA off a Honda GX390. The commercial engine every mechanic knows, so servicing is easy.
- Electric start as well. Turn a key at the machine when you're standing next to it.
- Single phase 230V. Straight into a changeover switch for your house or shed.
- Pre-delivery tested. It's run and checked before it ships, so it starts the day it lands.

Why You Should Consider a Gentech Generator
Gentech has been building Honda-powered generators for the Australian market for years, and the EP range is what farms and rural properties buy when downtime costs them money. It carries a 2-year warranty with parts and service support here in Australia. See the rest of the Gentech range.

Why the 30 litre tank changes the job it does
The standard EP8000HSR carries 6.1 litres and runs about two and a half hours at 80% load. This one carries 30 litres and runs 11.6. Same engine, same output, completely different use case. Six litres is a site generator you refill through the working day. Thirty litres is a backup generator you fill once and forget while the outage runs its course. If you're buying for blackouts rather than for tools, the tank is what you're paying for.
What remote start is actually worth
It sounds like a convenience feature until the first real outage. The power goes at night, it's raining, and the generator is out by the shed. With remote start you press a button from inside. Without it you're getting dressed and going out. On a rural property where the grid drops several times a winter, that gets old fast. Electric start at the machine is still there for when you're standing next to it.
What will an 8kVA generator run?
Eight kVA on single phase is about 6.4kW of real work, which covers a house running the fridge, the freezer, lights, the pump and a split system, or a shed with a compressor and tools. Wired through a changeover switch it takes over the circuits you nominate when the grid drops. If you want the whole house with everything on at once, look further up the Gentech range.
Getting it wired in
A backup generator earns its keep when it's wired to a changeover switch, so the circuits you care about swap over cleanly. That's a licensed electrician's job and it's worth budgeting for alongside the generator. Never backfeed through a wall socket: it's dangerous to you and to anyone working on the line. Ring the store on 03 7056 6732 if you want to talk through how it should be set up before you order.

Not Sure Which Generator Suits You?
The EP8000HSRE-R/S suits you if you're buying a generator for blackouts on a house or a rural property, and you want long run time plus the ability to start it without going outside. It's the wrong pick if you want a site generator you cart around, where the standard EP8000HSR gives you the same 8kVA for a lot less. It carries a 2-year Gentech warranty.
