The Owner's Insights on the Gentech EP200WELDHSR 7kVA Honda Powered Welder Generator

One machine instead of two. 200 amps of welding at a 60% duty cycle, plus 7kVA of normal 230V power through double 15A GPOs, off a single Honda GX390. That's a welder and a generator in one trip to the ute.

The 60% duty cycle is the number that matters if you weld for a living. It means six minutes of arc in every ten before it needs to cool, which is real working capacity rather than a hobby rating.

One thing to plan around: the tank is 6.1 litres, which is about two and a half hours at 80% load. That's the trade for a 100kg machine you can actually lift onto a tray. Carry a jerry can.

Why You'll Love the Gentech EP200WELDHSR 7kVA Honda Powered Welder Generator

  • 200 amp welder output. Site fabrication and repairs, not just tacking.
  • 60% duty cycle. Six minutes of arc in every ten, then a breather.
  • 7kVA generator output. Grinders, lights and tools off the same machine.
  • Honda GX390 engine. The engine every small engine mechanic knows.
  • Double 15A GPOs. Standard Australian sockets, nothing to work around.
  • 69 dBA at 7 metres. Quiet for an open frame welder generator.
  • Recoil or electric start. Pick the version that suits how you work.
  • 100kg, 810 x 545 x 545mm. Built to travel on the back of your ute.

Why You Should Consider a Gentech Welder Generator

Gentech build petrol and diesel generators for the Australian trade and rural market, and the EP200WELDHSR pairs their 7kVA Honda-powered set with a 200 amp welder. See the rest of the Gentech range.

What a 60% duty cycle means when you're welding

Duty cycle is how much of a ten minute stretch you can hold an arc before the machine needs to cool. At 60% that's six minutes on, four minutes off, which is genuinely useful working capacity. A hobby welder is often 20 or 30%, which stops you constantly. For site repairs, fabrication and farm work, 60% at 200 amps means you're limited by your rods and your patience rather than by the machine.

Be realistic about the 6.1 litre tank

At 80% load it burns 2.44 litres an hour, so the 6.1 litre tank gives you around two and a half hours. That's short, and it's the direct consequence of keeping the whole thing at 100kg and ute-sized. It suits a repair job, a morning's fabrication or a service call. It doesn't suit setting up and walking away for a day. Carry a 20 litre jerry can and it's a non-issue.

One machine or two?

The honest comparison is against buying a generator and a separate welder. Two machines usually give you more welding capacity and more generator output for the money, and if one dies you still have the other. What this gives you instead is one thing to load, one engine to service, one lot of fuel and one spot on the tray. For a mobile trade or a farm workshop that's often worth more than the raw specs.

Recoil or electric start: which version?

Both versions on this page are the same machine, the same 7kVA and the same 200 amp welder. The recoil version is a pull cord: simple, nothing to go flat, and 5kg lighter at 100kg. The electric start version adds a button and a battery, which is the one you want on a cold morning or if you start it several times a day. Choose above before you add it to the cart.

Petrol welder generator, or diesel?

If you want the same idea in diesel, the Gentech ED160WELDYSRE runs a Yanmar and gives you better fuel economy under load along with a longer engine life. It costs more upfront and weighs more. The rule of thumb: if it welds most weeks, diesel pays the difference back. If it's for occasional repairs, petrol is the sensible buy. Not sure? Ring the store on 03 7056 6732.

What's Included

  • Gentech EP200WELDHSR or EP200WELDHSRE welder generator, in your chosen start version
  • Honda GX390 engine
  • 200 amp welder at 60% duty cycle
  • Double 15A GPO outlets

What's Not Included

  • Petrol
  • Welding leads, an electrode holder and an earth clamp
  • Welding rods, a helmet and gloves
  • A jerry can, which you'll want with a 6.1 litre tank

Check what welding leads and accessories you have before it arrives, and ring us if you want them added to the order. The 6.1 litre tank gives about two and a half hours at load, so a jerry can is part of the kit rather than an optional extra.

Not Sure Which Welder Generator Suits You?

The EP200WELDHSR suits you if you weld on site or around a property and you'd rather carry one machine than two, on an engine you can get parts for anywhere. It's the wrong pick if you weld all day every day, where a dedicated welder and a separate generator give you more of both, or if you need long unattended running, where a 6.1 litre tank will frustrate you. Try the Generator Finder, or call the store on 03 7056 6732 and we'll match it to your work.
